The 2016 updated version of the Essentials of Point-of-Care Ultrasound e-book on iBooks has now gone live. It includes updates to all chapters. The most significant updates are to the Renal, IVC, and Thoracic chapters. The Renal chapter provides a more incisive way to determine the grade of hydronephrosis. The IVC chapter contains the latest definitions for defining a positive vs negative scan. The Thoracic chapter has an expanded B lines section. A chapter on Prehospital POCUS by Dr Jordan Chenkin has been added. A few of the chapters now have a Student’s Corner by Dr Paul Olszynski and his team of students. The highlight of the Student’s Corner sections are video mini-lectures of anatomical and pathophysiologic correlations to POCUS. If you already have the e-book, it should be a free update. To get the update, go to the iBooks Store on your Mac device and search either for my last name or the full title of the e-book. When you find it, just click the update tab and it should download. Once the download is complete, exit the store and go to the e-book itself.

  1. This is an email with some advice from Dr Bernard Richard of Valleyfield, Québec:

    Hi,

For me, it worked better just deleting the actual version and then to just redownload the new one. I never saw any “update” button.
